A Fishwife's Prayer
Anon
  • These lines appeared in the Buckie Fishing Heritage Centre's newsletter, "Heritage News"
  • The wind is howlin' in the lum
  • Far will your faither be
  • Is he safely moored in Port
  • Or tossin' on the sea
  • The wins' still howlin in the lum
  • The bairns noo fast asleep
  • Oh I worry for my man
  • Oot on the stormy deep
  • Oh you who stilled the stormy wind
  • And calmed the raging sea
  • And saved your faithful fishermen
  • On far off Galilee
  • The win' is howlin in the lum
  • Oh hear my fervent plea
  • And guard my faithful fisherman
  • An' bring him safe to me
  • The beauty of a tranquil sea
  • Colours no words can pen
  • Can turn into a raging storm
  • That takes the lives o' men.
  • The win's stopped howlin in the lum
  • Ye've heard this prayer fae me
  • Noo grant him work upon the lan'
  • An' leave the restless sea.
