Martyrs or the Virtual Lunch
C. M. Flett
  • On his retirement lunch paid by IBM UK
  • The good news is, YOU have been chosen
  • For Chas Flett's retirement do,
  • `Cos you're worthy, and can take it
  • When the bad news reaches you,
  • Big Blue says, "Chas, here's a pony
  • Times by nine...go have a thrash;
  • Choose six comrades", thats not easy,
  • There's so many...I could be rash,
  • John, Dick and Sandy from the Hard days
  • When we fought the Banks and drew!
  • Frank, Freda, Maureen from the Soft days,
  • By virtual lunches! A motley crew!
  • Invite both Sheena and the boss-man,
  • To get me home and pay the bill,
  • "Wine them; dine them; but no spirits!"
  • Are the rules from top o't hill.
  • Now the bad news! Oh you Martyrs,
  • Twenty five sovs you must "pay",
  • For a good cause of my choosing,
  • To help to keep dread C. at bay.
  • It is decreed...you must go hungry!
  • For a cause that's good and true,
  • I've told Big Blue, "Donate the money!"
  • On behalf of me and YOU.
